New staff settling in nicely by Cameron R
“It’s amazing to have such greatly behaved students in my form. They’re all lovely to talk with and teach.”
Here at Egglescliffe School, there are many staff members in all departments, and they are all here to teach informative and interesting lessons to their students.
As some new members join our staff, they may be unknown to some. So, we have interviewed a few of our new teachers to help you get to know who they are and how they are settling in.
Miss Brownlee (7AB)
Miss Brownlee is a new science teacher; we interviewed her and here are our questions and her responses. Our first question for Miss Brownlee was “What memorable experiences were you involved with in your previous school?” She replied, “Well it was my first school, and I ran a science club.” This is an amazing achievement for Miss Brownlee and must’ve got some of the students from her old school interested in science!
As we wanted to see how our school treated our new teachers, we asked, “Have the staff and students been accommodating towards you?” Here’s her response: “Yes, I’m settling in very well both staff and students have been accommodating and compassionate towards me despite me being new here.”
This is great news for Egglescliffe since there are so many staff members, it’s always important that everyone feels noticed and valued.
In our final question, we asked Miss about her form tutor group. “What’s it like to be a form tutor? Can it be a bit stressful as it’s your first year here?” Miss Brownlee answered, “It’s great to get to know my students on a deeper level, it can show their personality. At times it can be stressful as it’s my first form class I’ve had before but it’s overall enjoyable.”
Teachers can take form classes of students from Years 7 to 9, 10 to 11 or in Sixth Form from 12 to 13. This has always proved to be a great method for both staff and students to be able to get to know each other better during tutorial or registration.
Miss Asghar (7RA)
Miss Asghar is a language teacher teaching in class 112 in the Peake building. This is our interview with her responses about her arrival at Egglescliffe. We began with, “Are you adapting well to the Egglescliffe environment?”
Miss Asghar answered with, “I feel like I’m adapting well to the school. It helps to have such amazing people around you to help.” Seeing as we have new staff members in nearly every year, it is nice to be able to make them feel as welcomed as possible. We proceeded to ask Miss Asghar about her form with the question, “How are you feeling about having a form this year?”
This is the reply we received: “It’s amazing to have such greatly behaved students in my form. They’re all lovely to talk with and teach.” All form tutors have one lesson a week with their form class to teach about topics such as cyber security, different culture weeks and RE.
To conclude our interview with Miss Asghar, we asked, “What exciting memory did you make before coming to Egglescliffe?”
This is the response we got: “Well, in my last school I taught two languages, and we also held a European language competition.” This is such an incredible achievement for Miss Asghar and can always continue in Egglescliffe since there are language competitions against different secondary schools in the area which is always lots of fun.
Mrs Muir (7KM)
Mrs Muir is an English teacher who teaches in EN7.
We began with “What are your opinions on your form group so far this year?”
She informed us that, “They’re all wonderfully behaved, and I am enjoying and further looking forward to getting to know them in and outside the classroom.”
As all three teachers have form classes in Year 7, the longest time the form will stay the same as Years 10 to 11 are in a different form group for those two years and the same applies for Sixth Form. Thus, a golden opportunity to get to know your form class over three years.
We asked Mrs Muir about her previous school. She said, “Well, when I taught in Willington and while I taught at the school, I held an English writing competition.” Third and finally we asked about how she was overall settling in. She replied to our question with, “I’m settling okay. I enjoy having my students and learning about them as individuals and it is a fantastic atmosphere.”
Welcome also to science teacher Miss Norton and Mr Henderson, Deputy Head Teacher.
Overall, there are loads of amazing staff who have joined Egglescliffe School and we’re sure they’re very excited to get to know both fellow staff and students as they begin the journey as a part of our wonderful school!
