Teachers take it home at charity football match... report by Aarikaa K and Emmeline W
Two dislocated knees, a hat-trick from Powell and a very angry crowd…
The staff of Egglescliffe School defeated the Year 11 pupils 4-2 in our annual charity football match this term.
It was a very eventful game, with six goals in total, eventually resulting in a comeback victory for the staff after last year’s defeat. Two dislocated knees, a hat-trick from Powell and a very angry crowd… this is what actually happened.
At the start of the match both teams were extremely motivated, rearing to go. Kick off. Yes! No... GOAL! Within just five minutes, we had a goal from Powell. 1-0 to the staff. Fast forward fifteen minutes and we have a score of 1-1, Johnson has a dislocated knee and J Morrison has entered the field. The game continues and after a few passes, we have another goal from the staff. The crowd screams as Powell leaps in the air in celebration.
By halftime, the pupils had another one back, making the score 2-2. The crowd began betting sweets, crisps and popcorn on who will win, laughing and cheering for their teachers.

The game restarts. However, this half, the staff have changed their tactics and only ten minutes after the break, the staff lead 4-2. To be honest, not much happened after this. A few tackles and a couple of shots from the pupils was all the crowd got.
After what felt like years, the final whistle blew and chaos rained down on the pitch. Fellow pupils screamed, all in unison and, a sight you don’t see very often, Miss Collins dancing around with SLT. Trust me, I was there, it was quite the experience. The staff, after last year’s defeat, lifted the trophy as the Year 11s watched in despair.
